Yvonne Buijs-Mancuso-
A resident of Friday Harbor, Washington, Yvonne Buijs-Mancuso's work has
evolved through many medium transformations. When she first encountered
encaustic paintings she was enthralled by the translucent, glass-like effects
and knew this was her medium of choice. This 3000-year old technique
suspends pigment in bees wax and applies molten color to the surface, then
she fuses it with a heat source, producing a luminous effect resembling glass.
"Presently I am allowing my artwork, my artistic passion, and the subject
matter in my paintings to experience an unrestricted set of boundaries. I
am exploring all the amazing possibilities for surface manipulation and
the accomanying layering method."
